Abstract:

The Joint Commission's Sentinel Event Advisory Group recommended National Patient Safety Goals and associated requirements for 2009. The Joint Commission's Board of Commissioners approved these recommendations and established a January 1, 2009, effective date for the new goals and requirements. The 2009 goals and requirements are reformatted and renumbered as a result of the Joint Commission's Standards Improvement Initiative.
