Abstract:

This article introduces the new "Know Your Rights" aspect of the Joint Commission's nationwide Speak Up^™ campaign to promote increased patient involvement in health care. "Know Your Rights" provides tips to help people become more engaged in their treatment, thus improving the safety and quality of care received. The article lists strategies patients can use to keep themselves informed in the health care process.
