A recent statement from The Joint Commission underscores the importance of steam sterilization and adequately cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilizing medical equipment and supplies—such as those used in surgical procedures—to prevent the spread of infection and ensure patient safety. This article describes how the environment of care professional contributes to maintaining high-quality steam for the sterilization process, as well as playing a critical role in communicating regularly with clinical staff members to ensure safe and effective equipment operation.Document Type: Research article
