Abstract:

In accordance with the Joint Commission's Standard Improvement Initiative (SII), accreditation manuals will include a chapter dedicated to life safety beginning in 2009. This article outlines the regulations for compliance with the Life Safety Code®, and also describes the benefits of the new chapter, including greater organization, consistency, and clarity of issues related to life safety.
