Abstract:

As of January 1, 2008, the Joint Commission's National Patient Safety Goal 7A allows organizations the choice of complying with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Guidelines for Hand Hygiene or the World Health Organization (WHO) Guidelines on Hand Hygiene in Health Care. This article compares the WHO and CDC guidelines, and provides guidance on how to achieve compliance.
