Abstract:

PeaceHealth system's new Sacred Heart Medical Center in RiverBend, Eugene, Oregon, is being designed in accord with best practices towards building a healing environment. Private patient rooms are at the forefront of their commitment, as studies have shown private rooms reduce health care?associated infections and reduce patient injuries and stress by eliminating room transfers. The article also includes commentary from the architects and reveals how the new design can work to bring together caregivers and patients, engage the family, and ultimately, heal the patient.
