Abstract:

Today, many hospitals are working to safeguard male infants and boys from being harmed by tubing and equipment that contains d (2-ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP). DEHP can suppress testosterone, impair fertility, and impair the development of the reproductive organs of male fetuses in utero, male newborns, and boys near puberty. This article discusses how to keep your patients safe from DEHP, including which patients are most susceptible, how to find and eliminate DEHP, and methods to properly label products containing DEHP. Also included are on-line resources on DEHP safety.
