Abstract:

Children are at higher risk of harm than adults during medical emergencies, not only in the emergency department, but also during a disaster scenario. This article discusses how to plan for pediatric safety, such as where to begin, how to be prepared for special needs children in the emergency department (ED), how to properly care for children, techniques on child-proofing the ED, and how to create a soothing environment for children.
