Abstract:

This article discusses the Minnesota bridge collapse that took place on August 1, 2007 and the response of two particular hospitals to that disaster. Hennepin County Medical Center and the University of Minnesota medical Center-Fairview relied on their participation in emergency management exercises in adapting to the many challenges this tragedy presented. This article profiles these two hospitals, and includes the essential steps each organization took upon learning of the event, the necessary actions that were taken to stay organized during the chaos, and save lives.
