Making Sure HCWs Are Vaccinated for Flu: Lack of Vaccination Can Result in Fatalities Among Vulnerable Populations

Abstract:
Statistics show that health care workers (HCWs) can be a key cause of flu outbreaks in most health care facilities. Infected HCWs can unknowingly carry the flu virus to their patients, especially to the elderly and others who are at high risk of flu-related complications, such as patients in neonatal care units and organ transplant units. Because immunization is the best defense against the spread of seasonal influenza, health care organizations must increase the number of immunizations against seasonal influenza among HCWs.Document Type: Research article
