Deficiencies in the physical environment are implicated in almost 73% of suicide sentinel events reviewed by the Joint Commission in 2005. This article offers tips and strategies for creating a safer, more suicide-proof environment and helping to meet the 2006 National Patient Safety Goal 15A.
