Abstract:
Morris Harry Swadesh (22 January 1909, Holyoke, Massachusetts - 20 July 1967, Mexico City) is mostly remembered now for his work on the twin fields of lexicostatistics and glottochronology, fields which he developed from 1950 to his death. But he achieved so much more in linguistics than a reputation based on his justly famous and still valuable lexicostatistical work would suggest.Document Type: Research article
