Abstract:
In this work the spouted bed technique was used to inoculate soybean seeds. The effect of the coating process variables on soybean seed quality was investigated. The studied variables were the air flow rate, the atomization air flow rate and the suspension flow rate. The used statistical methodology enables to obtain empirical equations fitted to the experimental data for predicting soybean seed quality (germination, vigour and fissures) as a function of the investigated variables. To find the optimum operating conditions a canonical analysis of the fitted surfaces was made. The results show that the quality of the coated seeds tended to decrease, when the atomization air and the spouting air flow rate increased. The optimum operational conditions maximizing seed germination and vigour are: spouting air flow rate, 39 l/s; atomization air flow rate, 850 l/h and suspension flow rate, 12 ml/min.Document Type: Research article
