Substrate Developments in Fine Art Media
Abstract:The digital printing of art reproductions and original digital art has blossomed into a major application for water based ink jet printing. Canvas, art paper, textiles, photo paper and specialized art media have evolved over the last decade along with printers and ink technology. I will review some of these developments and the current state of the science of ink jet art reproduction and digital art. With the development of higher resolution printers for UV curable ink jet printers and dedicated textile printers a new set of tools are becoming available to the artist and publisher. The impact of these developments and their potential to continue the rapid growth in this field will be discussed in this paper.

For more than 25 years, NIP has been the leading forum for discussion of advances and new directions in non-impact and digital printing technologies. A comprehensive, industry-wide conference, this meeting includes all aspects of the hardware, materials, software, images, and applications associated with digital printing systems, including drop-on-demand ink jet, wide format ink jet, desktop and continuous ink jet, toner-based electrophotographic printers, production digital printing systems, and thermal printing systems, as well as the engineering capability, optimization, and science involved in these fields.
Since 2005, NIP has been held in conjunction with the Digital Fabrication Conference.
