Abstract:

The aim of this article is to examine, through a comparative study, points of similarity and divergence between one Khmer nirat ('Travel in France during the Paris World Exhibition of 1900') and Thai nirat (separation poetry) in general. The article suggests that, as there are many points of convergence between this particular Khmer nirat and Thai nirat in general, it is very likely that Khmer nirat were strongly influenced by the Thai.
