Abstract:

A theory is presented to show that dark and grey spatial solitons can be formed spontaneously in azobenzene-containing polymers (ACPs) with photoisomerization nonlinearity by simultaneously considering the angle hole burning (AHB) effect and the photoinduced molecular reorientation (PMR) effect. It shows that compared to that of the AHB effect, the contribution of the PMR to the formation of solitons is evident and cannot be ignored. It is found that the dependence of the width of this kind of solitons on the intensity of the light beam is similar to that of photorefractive solitons.
