Abstract:

The noise of gravitational wave detectors is Gaussian but non-stationary so any good filtering technique should be adaptive. We propose a two-step adaptive procedure to identify signal and/or noise bursts, consisting of an adaptive zero phase Wiener filter in the frequency domain followed by a series of band-pass filters and an adaptive threshold algorithm to identify the events and their characteristics. This approach has been applied to simulated Virgo-like data.
