Abstract:

This article describes the nascence and development of Performance Studies as a scheme of undergraduate study in the University of Wales Aberystwyth. It examines the particular academic, political and cultural conditions leading to its creation and the influence of professional practice on its character. It outlines the structure of the degree scheme and makes the case for distinctive local approaches to the study of performance.
