Abstract
Kitchen Sink is a highpoint of Female Gothic exploration in contemporary world cinema. In this genre female characters face, within dreamlike situations, archetypal male figures who prompt fear and desire. Like other films by prominent New Zealand women directors, Kitchen Sink boldly experiments with horror–mystery–thriller conventions in a feminist context.
