Abstract

Cha no aji (aka. The Taste of Tea, 2004) by Ishii Katsuhito (1966-) is a daring attempt at visualizing nonsensical dreams while masquerading its outlook as a portrayal of a gentle, even traditional Japanese family, the Harunos. Its markedly off-beat narrative corresponds to Japanese people's yearning for "iyashi" (healing), a desire widespread since the end of the Bubble Economy in the mid-1990s
