Abstract:
This article proposes a quantitative approach in considering the effect of inter-vehicle communication with respect to safety and congestion improvement. For enhancing safety by reducing delay time for safe braking for individual vehicles, long distance inter-vehicle communication (LDIVC) is proposed. An equation is developed for calculating delay time from a micro view. For alleviating congestion in a simplified traffic network, which consists of a primary route with high capacity and an alternative route with low capacity, short distance inter-vehicle communication (SDIVC) is proposed. For evaluating traffic throughput comparatively a set of formulae are derived from a macro view. Keywords: TECHNICAL JOURNALS; Automotive and Transportation Systems
