Abstract:As markets become competitive and influenced by a number of factors, companies endeavour to design a competitive strategy that will enable them to remain competitive and ensure customer satisfaction. In this endeavour, it is being increasingly realised that building a good network in supply chain is important for any firm, which is geared towards providing customer satisfaction and thus maintaining a competitive advantage. Admittedly, an optimal supply chain network plan needs to go hand‐in‐hand with true performance management system for the managers. That way, the two issues are tied together. This paper interweaves the context of industry needs of supply chain planning with a generic model of supply chain networks. It shows that management control systems designed into supply chain networks can lead to improvements in supply chain decisions.
