Abstract:In this paper, presented to the 'Licensing in Europe' Conference, 23‐24 June 1988, London, the author argues that to maximize profits through licensing requires: a viable product, a need for the product, and the freedom to 'go it alone' in developing the product. Important factors in exploiting a product are: market price, market territory, market share, patent duration, and royalty rate. It is also necessary at the same time to minimize costs, and in particular to adopt an efficient tax strategy.
