Abstract:

This publication deals with the social and economic situation of the small- and medium-sized enterprises (SME) in Latvia. It includes information about the state economic policy and the goals of its further development. There is discussion of conditions favouring the development of the SME, as well as existing problems. Generally accessible statistical data is given about the present environment of the entrepreneurial activity in relation to the SME. For characteristics of the situation in Latvia, parallels are drawn with the development of SME and the existing situation in the EU countries. Analysis is given of the performed actions in connection with Latvia's integration in the European Union.
