Abstract:
The electric utilities sector is considered to be "strategic" by some governments and so it is regulated differently in many countries. In some of them (i.e. Europe) there is a progressive process towards full liberalisation. This will make the number of competitors grow and will involve a different way of them approaching consumers in order to increase their market share. E-business allows either traditional industry players or new incumbents to develop new business models to focus on this target but, as in many industrial sectors, the impact of e-business also depends on the degree of market liberalisation. When considering the current operation of electricity e-business companies, and some key indicators of their activity, performance, regulatory context, etc., it is possible to group them by cluster analysis. The study of the nature of these groups will permit the description of the new e-business models that may begin to operate in the liberalised markets. Keywords: MANAGEMENT JOURNALS; Entrepreneurship, Innovation and SMEs
