Abstract:

Book by Gerald Midgley and Martin Reynolds. The Operational Research Society, 2001, 152 pages, ISBN 0903440237. This report provides a very useful point of departure for the operational research specialist engaging in environmental issues or the environmental specialist getting interested in operational research. Therefore, it constitutes a significant contribution towards an inter- and trans-disciplinary reorientation of environmental planning and management (EPM). The report is the result of a research project that attempts to develop an agenda for the future role of operational research in EPM. The project was initiated by the British Operational Research Society and aimed at making the existing use of operational research in EPM more visible, exploring the potential of further use of operational research in EPM, and finally, clarifying how operational research should be further developed in order to support EPM.
