The effects of standard parsimony and three-item statement analysis, two different approaches to cladistics, are examined relative to a series of matrices where plesiomorphic values in one taxon are increased in a regular fashion. Analyses of these matrices suggest that standard parsimony is less sensitive to these changes than three-item statement analysis.
