Abstract:

The completion of the mouse genome has given a new importance to the mouse as a model for mammalian biology in general and for the mammalian brain in particular. This applies most obviously to molecular biological studies, with the promise of identification and characterization of increasing numbers of genes and proteins specific to brain cells and brain function. The even bigger reward will be relating the genome and proteome to function, beginning at the molecular level and reaching up through cells and synaptic circuits to behavior.
