Abstract:
Thyroid cancer comprises less than 1% of human malignancies, shows an incidence range of 0.510 cases/105 population/yr [1], and afflicts approx 1 in 1000 pregnancies [2]. Papillary carcinoma predominates in women and is the most frequent thyroid malignancy both in the general population and during pregnancy. Risk factors that may influence its biological behavior include age and tumor stage [14]. Controversy continues about the impact of pregnancy on the outcome of papillary carcinoma. Studies from large series support the view that pregnancy does not influence thyroid cancer prognosis [3,4] and suggest that thyroidectomy should be carried out at the earliest safe date to avoid either the risk of miscarriage in the first trimester or the possibility of premature labor in the third trimester [2].Document Type: Miscellaneous
