Abstract:

A retrospective review of charts of patients with the amniotic band syndrome was conducted to analyze the ocular findings in this syndrome. Abnormal ocular findings were found in 7 patients. They included corneal opacity, corneal ulcer, eyelid ectropion, eyelid coloboma, anophthalmos, hypertelorism, protuberant eyes, and eyelid involvement by a cystic hygroma. Ophthalmic manifestations vary tremendously as a result of the timing and location of the amniotic band causing the intrauterine compression.
