Abstract:

Even in the fourth decade of the vitrectomy era, not all aspects of scar formation involving the central retina are understood clearly. Controversial issues include terminology, classification, pathogenesis and etiology, as well as the indications for, and details of, surgery. This article provides an overview of the most important and clinically relevant issues concerning epiretinal membranes.
