Abstract:
Glaucoma is disease of the optic nerve, which, if left untreated, can lead to irreversible loss of vision. Over the past few decades there have been significant advances in both the medical and surgical treatment of glaucoma. Today, with early diagnosis and treatment, most patients with glaucoma can be well controlled and avoid significant loss of vision from glaucoma. Since glaucoma is a common ophthalmologic disease, with high prevalence in the elderly, it is important to understand the various treatment options. The purpose of this review is to discuss the management and treatment of primary open-angle glaucoma (medical management and surgical options) and review the key studies that aid physicians in the management of this disease. Keywords: glaucoma; medical management; primary open-angle glaucoma; surgical management
