Abstract:

This study shows the importance of group qualitites mediating in professional innovations. It is argued that research on group processes and innovation requires checking interaction frequency and both a qualitative and a quantitative distinction in group social interaction. Groupality is defined following the theory of collectivity and operationalized by means of the "group development level" scale (NDG). As a result of a review of the literature on groups and innovation, the "innovative group qualities" (CGI) variable is proposed. 36 departaments from educational centers are studied with a comparative procedure at a group level. The innovative departments are making a fundamental change in their professional practices. Results show group influence as mediating in innovation. The results point out the type of group and the most relevant dimensions that can be a positive mediator in a type of innovation qualified as recreator, autoinitiated and radical.
