Abstract:

We examine some mathematical tools for dealing with ambiguous situations. The main tool is the use of non-standard logic with truth-values in what is called a locale. This approach is related to fuzzy set theory, which we briefly discuss. We also consider probabilistic concepts. We include specific examples and describe the way a researcher can set up a suitable locale to analyse a concrete situation.

En este trabajo se examinan algunas herramientas matemáticas empleadas para tratar situaciones ambiguas. La herramienta principal es el uso de lógica no estándar con valores de verdad en lo que conoce como un locale. Esta aproximación se relaciona con la teoría de conjuntos difusos, que se comenta brevemente. También se consideran los conceptos probabilísticos y se incluyen ejemplos específicos. Asimismo se describe la forma en que un investigador puede construir un locale adecuado para analizar una situación concreta.

Estudios de Psicolog�a es una revista cuyo objetivo prioritario es constituirse en un espacio de di�logo, tanto entre diferentes subdisciplinas psicol�gicas, como entre la psicolog�a y otras formas de conocimiento pr�ximas a ella. Los trabajos publicados incluyen art�culos originales de car�cter te�rico y emp�rico que supongan una innovaci�n en cualquier �mbito de la psicolog�a o en ciencias afines. Se considera de la m�xima importancia que los trabajos pongan en relaci�n la relevancia te�rica de sus datos o reflexiones con el estado del arte, tanto dentro del �mbito espec�fico del trabajo, como para el conjunto de la disciplina.
Estudios de Psicolog�a's main goal is to provide a dialogue forum both between psychological sub-disciplines, and between psychology and other related disciplines. Its aim is to promote theoretical debate and relevant research work. The journal aims to promote research in the frontier of psychological knowledge: innovative researchers are especially welcome in this publication. Estudios de Psicolog�a also fosters approaches that delve deep into psychology's most relevant trends and developments. Thus, at least one of its three yearly issues will be devoted to monographic themes.
Accepted manuscripts include original works, both of theoretical and empirical nature, which mean an advance or innovation in any field in psychology or related sciences. It is most important that these works highlight the relationship between the theoretical relevance of the data or reflections presented and the state of the art, both in the specific field addressed and in psychology at large.
