Abstract:

Este trabajo pretende llevar a cabo una doble revisión, teórica y empírica, de los problemas que plantea la relación semántico-conceptual "parte-todo" y "parte-de". Con ella se pretende poner de manifiesto la relevancia "interdisciplinar" de dicha relación, pues no sólo es objeto de estudio a través de consideraciones formales desde la Filosofía y la Lógica, y de acercamientos más naturales e informales desde la Psicología Cognitiva, - en concreto en categorización- , sino que también es objeto de estudio en sus aspectos lingüísticos y antropológicos y desde acercamientos computacionales en percepción visual. El objetivo es analizar cuál es la naturaleza, propiedades y estatus cognitivo de esta relación, que le otorgan su prioridad y saliencia como una de las características o atributos básicos de las categorías naturales y de eventos. Abordaremos también el problema de su carácter invariante, a través de los presupuestos universalistas subyacentes en que esta se fundamenta, - basados en las regularidades de la naturaleza y en la primacía de la percepción visual - y, por tanto, su posible carácter de primitivo semántico. Por último se abordará su organización, estructura y tipología, a través de las jerarquías "partonímicas" que determina, y sus diferencias con otro tipo de jerarquía básica en la organización conceptual: las taxonomías.

The aim of this study is to carry out a double review, theoretical and empirical, of the problem posed by the semantic-conceptual relation "part-whole" and "part-of". Our intention is to show the interdisciplinary relevance of such relation; for not only is it being studied through formal characterizations from Philosophy and Logic, and through more natural and informal approaches from Cognitive Psychology - specifically in relation to categorization- but also the object of study are its linguistic and anthropological aspects and from mainly computational approaches, - visual perception, recognition of forms-. The study's ultimate purpose is to analyze the nature, properties and cognitive structures of this relation, which give its priority and salience as one of the basic characteristics and attributes of natural categories and events. The problem of their invariability will also be addressed through the underlying universalist assumptions on which it is founded-, based on the regularity of nature and on the importance of visual perception- and therefore its possible character of primitive of conceptual and semantic structuring. Finally the study will address its organization, structure, and typology through the analysis of those partonomic hierarchies which it determines, and its differences with another type of conceptual hierarchies: taxonomies.

Se considera de la mıxima importancia que los trabajos pongan en relaciın la relevancia teırica de sus datos o reflexiones con el estado del arte, tanto dentro del ımbito especıfico del trabajo, como para el conjunto de la disciplina.

  Estudios de Psicología's main goal is to provide a dialogue forum both between psychological sub-disciplines, and between psychology and other related disciplines. Its aim is to promote theoretical debate and relevant research work. The journal aims to promote research in the frontier of psychological knowledge: innovative researchers are especially welcome in this publication. Estudios de Psicología also fosters approaches that delve deep into psychology's most relevant trends and developments. Thus, at least one of its three yearly issues will be devoted to monographic themes.

  Accepted manuscripts include original works, both of theoretical and empirical nature, which mean an advance or innovation in any field in psychology or related sciences. It is most important that these works highlight the relationship between the theoretical relevance of the data or reflections presented and the state of the art, both in the specific field addressed and in psychology at large.
