Abstract:

Se hace un análisis de la relación entre memoria y conciencia tal como se concibe en la psicología cognitiva. Se citan varias líneas de investigación en la que esta relación se sitúa en primer plano: disociaciones entre formas explícitas e implícitas de memoria, investigaciones sobre control atencional y memoria operativa, estudios sobre el desarrollo de la memoria y el papel de la metamemoria e investigaciones sobre la relación entre conciencia y representaciones. De este análisis se concluye la dificultad de la psicología cognitiva basada en la metáfora del ordenador para dar cuenta de este problema. Se propone una visión sociocultural, basada en las obras de Vygotski y Luria, que se asienta en dos ideas principales: para explicar la relación entre memoria y conciencia es necesario ir más allá del nivel computacional, característico de los modelos cognitivos; y la imposibilidad de explicar esta relación si no se atiende al desarrollo de las funciones mentales superiores, considerando diversos dominios genéticos: filogénesis, ontogénesis, historia cultural y patologías cerebrales.

The relationship between memory and consciousness in cognitive psychology is analysed. For that purpose, several research lines are mentioned: dissociations between explicit and implicit forms of memory; investigations about attentional control and working memory, research on memory development and the role of metamemory and studies on the relationship between representations and consciousness. From this analysis, we conclude that cognitive psychology based on computer metaphor cannot account for this problem. We propose a sociocultural approach, based on the writtings of Vygotski and Luria, for the issue. That approach relies on two main ideas: 1) in order to explain the relationship between memory and consciousness it is necessary to go beyond the computational level 2) it is impossible to account for this relationship if we do not attend to the development of higher mental functions, by considering several genetic domains: phylogenesis, ontogenesis, cultural history and cerebral patologies.

Estudios de Psicolog�a's main goal is to provide a dialogue forum both between psychological sub-disciplines, and between psychology and other related disciplines. Its aim is to promote theoretical debate and relevant research work. The journal aims to promote research in the frontier of psychological knowledge: innovative researchers are especially welcome in this publication. Estudios de Psicolog�a also fosters approaches that delve deep into psychology's most relevant trends and developments. Thus, at least one of its three yearly issues will be devoted to monographic themes.
Accepted manuscripts include original works, both of theoretical and empirical nature, which mean an advance or innovation in any field in psychology or related sciences. It is most important that these works highlight the relationship between the theoretical relevance of the data or reflections presented and the state of the art, both in the specific field addressed and in psychology at large.
