Abstract:

Se analiza si los modelos mentales construidos al leer textos en los que el protagonista presenta un estado mental de creencia (sobre la localización de un objeto o de otro personaje) influye en la accesibilidad de información supuestamente relevante según dicha creencia, y si esta influencia se refleja en los tiempos de reacción al reconocimiento de esa información.

Se formulaban dos hipótesis: 1) los sujetos que tenían como ítem de reconocimiento la localización inicial mostrarían tiempos de reacción menores cuando el protagonista apareciera «asociado» a una creencia falsa, y 2) los sujetos que respondían a la localización actual mostrarían tiempos de reacción menores cuando el protagonista apareciera «asociado» a una creencia verdadera.

Los datos resultan favorables respecto a la mayor accesibilidad de la localización actual en situaciones de creencia verdadera. En cuanto a la accesibilidad de la localización inicial en situaciones de creencia falsa, los datos muestran una tendencia conforme a lo esperado, pero ésta no alcanza la significación. Se proponen ciertas hipótesis explicativas de este último resultado.

We analyse whether the mental models constructed when reading texts in which the protagonist holds a mental state of belief (about the location of an object or another character) affect the accessibility of information supposedly relevant on the basis of such belief, and whether this effect is shown by the response times corresponding to the recognition of that information.

Two hypotheses were formulated: 1) subjects who had as recognition item the initial location would show lower response times when the protagonist appeared «associated» with a false belief, and 2) subjects who answered to the present location would show lower response times when the protagonist appeared «associated» with a true belief.

Results did support our prediction about the higher accessibility of the present location in true belief situations. Regarding the accessibility of the initial location in false belief situations, results showed a trend according to our prediction, but this trend was not significant. We suggest some explanatory hypotheses about this result.

Estudios de Psicolog�a's main goal is to provide a dialogue forum both between psychological sub-disciplines, and between psychology and other related disciplines. Its aim is to promote theoretical debate and relevant research work. The journal aims to promote research in the frontier of psychological knowledge: innovative researchers are especially welcome in this publication. Estudios de Psicolog�a also fosters approaches that delve deep into psychology's most relevant trends and developments. Thus, at least one of its three yearly issues will be devoted to monographic themes.
Accepted manuscripts include original works, both of theoretical and empirical nature, which mean an advance or innovation in any field in psychology or related sciences. It is most important that these works highlight the relationship between the theoretical relevance of the data or reflections presented and the state of the art, both in the specific field addressed and in psychology at large.
