Abstract:

Fecundities of Russian wheat aphids, Diuraphis noxia (Mordvilko), from populations collected at Stillwater, OK, and Bethlehem, South Africa, were measured in the laboratory at each location. The measurements were conducted under two temperature regimes identical for each location. We detected no statistically significant differences in total fecundity between the populations for the Bethlehem tests conducted at 15 and 25°C and the Stillwater test at 15°C. However, fecundity of aphids in the Stillwater 25°C test was significantly lower than that of the other tests. In addition, reproduction at the higher temperature peaked sooner for the Stillwater aphids than for the Bethlehem aphids.
