Applications of chlorpyrifos 4 emulsifiable concentrate (EC) at 0.56 and 1.12 kg (AI)/ha applied through a center-pivot irrigation system resulted in significantly fewer second-generation European corn borer (ECB), Ostrinia nubilalis (Hübner), larvae (and consequently a significantly higher grain yield) than the untreated control. Larval reduction was less in the ear than in the stalk. Addition of a nonemulsifiable oil (Sunoco 11N) (1.06 liters) in 1983 had no significant effect on control. In 1984, two applications of chlorpyrifos 4EC at 0.56 kg (AI)/ha applied at 6-d intervals resulted in significantly fewer ECB per plant than a single application at 1.12 kg (AI)/ha. However, yields did not differ significantly.
