Abstract:Two experimental repellents, N,N-diethylcyclohexaneacetamide (DECA) and N,N-diethylcyclohexanepropanamide (DCP), and a standard, 3-isopropyl-l-methylcyclopentanecarboxylic acid (fencholic acid), effectively repelled both the German cockroach, Blattella germanica (L.), and the American cockroach, Periplaneta americana (L.). DCP and DECA were more effective against German than American cockroaches, with residual activity of ca. 3 wk. Fencholic acid was more effective against American than German cockroaches, with residual activity of ca. 2 wk. These synthetic chemical repellents may be useful parts of an integrated cockroach management program.
