Abstract:

A battery-operated 16-channel event recorder and 8-channel datalogger were constructed using a small, commercially available microcomputer. The event recorder is well-suited for use in experiments where several parameters are studied simultaneously in either individuals or groups of animals. The datalogger can be connected to virtually any type of commercially available sensor that provides a changing voltage or resistance, such as those that measure temperature or humidity. Both are programmable in BASIC and are able to transfer their data directly to other micro or mainframe computers for data analysis. Cost of the entire system is <$300.
