Four insecticide formulations and structural modification were evaluated for management of oriental cockroach, Blatta orientalis L., populations in apartment buildings. One perimeter and crawlspace application of either encapsulated chlorpyrifos or diazinon in early June reduced oriental cockroach populations by >85% for 2 months. Oriental cockroach populations were reduced 78 and 50% 2 months after application of chlorpyrifos (Dursban 4E) or hydramethylnon (Combat) baits, respectively. Structural modification did not result in a significant reduction in oriental cockroach populations. Structural modification was labor-intensive, requiring >8-fold more hours of labor per building compared with insecticide applications.
