Field trials of two fungicides, Captan and Thiabendazole, were conducted to determine their influence on chalkbrood disease of the alfalfa leafcutting bee (Megachile rotundata [F.L]). Captan effectively controlled the disease when applied triweekly; similar applications of Thiabendazole were ineffective in controlling this disease. Some disruption in nesting behavior was observed, but total cell production in all treatments was similar. No interactions were evident between mortalities of immature stages from any cause other than chalkbrood. Chalkbrood disease appears to be density dependent and shelter size may be a factor in disease control.
