Abstract:EPN [O-ethyl O-(p-nitrophenyl)phenylphosphonothioate] and TBPT (S,S,S,- tributyl phosphorotrithioate) were synergists for methyl parathion in the laboratory against a resistant strain of the tobacco bud worm, Heliothis virescens (F.). When compared directly with larvae of a susceptible strain at the LD90,315-fold resistance to methyl parathion was reduced to ll-fold and 9-fold resistance to methyl parathion/EPN and methyl parathion/ TBPT mixtures, respectively. Piperonyl but oxide and triphenyl phosphate were not effective as synergists. Results are discussed in relation to toxokinetic interactions, including inhibition of hydrolases and other detoxificative enzymes of synergists.
