Trypanosome-free laboratory mice injected with fecal material from field-collected Triatoma spp. (Hemiptera: Reduviidae) produced antibodies for Trypanosoma cruzi. Triatoma lecticularia Stål, T. recurva Stål, and T. gersaeckeri Stål had infection rates of 21.4, 23.1, and 25.8%, respectively, based on indirect hemagglutination assays (IHA). Infection rates in pack rats (Neotoma spp.), dogs, horses, and humans was determined by the IHA test. Infection rates for packrats ranged from 38.9 to 50%. Eight of 32 dogs had positive titers, and 2 of 5 horses had positive titers. None of the three humans had a positive titer for T. cruzi.
