A flowable formulation of coumaphos (BAY Vb 9328 Flowable) was evaluated as a control acaricide against Boophilus ticks. At 0.06%, the compound reduced the index of reproduction (IR) by >99.9% against the southern cattle tick, B. microplus (Canestrini), and provided 95.9% reduction of the IR against the cattle tick, B. annulatus (Say). At 0.12%, BAY Vb 9328 Flowable was >99.9 and 100% effective against B. microplus and B. annulatus, respectively. Samples of vat suspension obtained from the top, middle, and bottom of the unagitated vat suspension at various intervals after animals were treated indicated no significant settling of coumaphos particles for 7 days postdipping as compared with samples obtained immediately after animals were treated. At 14 and 21 days posttreatment, the mean concentration of coumaphos was 0.02 and 0.01 %, respectively, indicating that coumaphos particles had settled to the bottom of the vat.
