Abstract:

The within-tree distribution of live, developmental forms of the citrus blackfly (CBF), Aleurocanthus woglumi Ashby, was studied on 1277 trees in 7 grapefruit groves in the Texas Rio Grande Valley. No consistent clumping was detected in 12 of 17 samples, though on 3 sample occasions significantly more CBF occurred in the NW tree-quadrants and on 2 occasions in the SW tree-quadrants. Generally, the tree-quadrant bearing the maximum mean no. CBF was the same quadrant bearing the maximum percent leaves infested. Most CBF were detected on inside foliage on 12 of 17 samples, significantly more than on outside foliage on 4 samples.
