Abstract:An aqueous suspension of bromophos 25% WP was applied at 1.0 g AI/m2 to the concrete floor and inside wall of an empty cylindrical steel granary to determine uptake of bromophos into 1093 bu (29.8 metric tons) of bulk wheat during 7 mo of storage. The wheat was sampled at 150- to 18-bu intervals as the granary was emptied. Insecticide uptake was determined on 50-g wheat samples by chemical assay and bioassay with adults of the rusty grain beetle, Cryptolestes ferrugneus (Stephens). No bromophos was detected in the upper 450 bu of wheat stored in the treated granary. The highest residue (0.68 ppm) was recovered in the final 18 bu of wheat taken from the treated floor. Complete mortality of C. ferrugineus occurred on wheat samples with 0.5 ppm or higher, which also prevented emergence of C. ferrugineus F1 adults.
