Abstract:

An intensive study of fly populations in accumulated bovine manure was conducted from mid-Apr. through mid-Oct., 1975, on 2 dairy farms in the Mesa-Chandler area of south-central Arizona. Fly populations were sampled by water flotation of pupae from manure, emergence trapping of adults, and from resting adult counts. Musca domestica L. was the major noxious symbovine dipterous species. The effect of the feed additive insecticide, stirofos, on the fly populations was evaluated. Reduction of fly population ranged from 27–87%, depending upon the sampling method.
