Soil applications of fonofos, diazinon, ethoprop, disulfoton, aldicarb, carbofuran, oxamyl, and chlorpyrifos to sweet potatoes for control of wireworms, Conoderus vespertinus (F.) and a Melanotus sp .. showed diazinon and oxamyl to be the least effective. Preplant treatments were more effective than postplant treatments. There was no significant difference between broadcast and band treatments. Generally, postplant treatments and treatments of diazinon and oxamyl gave commercially unacceptable control.
